Moodle Communities

Lately I have been trying to find blogs, web sites and social networking sites that revolve around Moodle. I found a few great blogs like The Moodleman Blog, Taming Moodle, Global Classroom and a Moodle Tutorials Blog. I am also a member of the Ning groups Moodle Meet and Moodlers.
However, considering how popular Moodle is I expect there to be more blogs, sites and communities revolving around Moodle. I would think that Moodle, being an open-source product, would have more communities and sites with resoures because the open-source community is known to be large and very collaborative. I wonder why this is–maybe I am just not looking in the right places or maybe it is because Moodle.org has such great documentation and a great community itself that any other community would just not be as good. Don’t get me wrong Moodle.org has the best, most complete documentation, help and awesome forums to get an answer but where are the communities or social networking sites that focus on things like “Moodle in Elementary Schools”, “Teachers using Moodle in the classroom”? A place where teachers can collaborate and get ideas from other teachers using Moodle.
The two Ning Moodle communities are pretty good but there is not a ton of user action. I guess I just expected there to be more out there about Moodle, whether it’s a web site, blog or community because Moodle is getting very popular.
I would greatly appreciate any suggested Moodle sites, blogs or resources!

I feel the same way. I believe that one factor is that large districts, companies, and businesses that use Moodle probably already have their own Moodle forums, etc. My district is in the process of rolling out Moodle and we’ve got a course ready for discussing and supporting it.
Moodle.org is great for troubleshooting issues, but pretty terrible for actually discussing using Moodle in K-12 schools, considering the size of Moodle.
I very much appreciate your site – keep up the good work!
I think you are looking for very specific communities, I know some groups e.g. http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=128299 or another groups on facebook. But there are much more groups like “Moodle ruined my life” etc., but I think you are not looking for these kinds
@Richard Thanks for the compliment! True, about larger districts collaborating within their own district but I think great ideas are discovered and shared when people from different backgrounds and with different experiences come together. Plus it’s easier for someone like me, not in the district, to share and learn : )
We are currently offering Moodle User Group Sessions to our staff that have already taken the mandatory Moodle training. These sessions are smaller groups of Moodlers wanting to collaborate and share with others. I have learned that teachers learn a lot from their peers and they really embrace the opportunity to do so.
I have to agree, there are few valuable resources on the web that are solely about providing information to teachers about using Moodle–which contributes to the long learning curve for new Moodlers.
The nings are great, but they detract from the focus on Moodle (ning does a much better job in helping users share information)…if only there were a ning/moodle module.
What I’d like to see if real repository of Moodle classrooms where teachers could view, comment on and rate content in Moodle and contribute/take courses that were ready to use. Moodlecommons.org is a step in the right direction, but we’re a long way off.
Great site, thanks for the posts.
@Joseph Thanks for the Moodlecommons.org link. I will keep an eye on it and hopefully see it grow!
Hi,
I would like to propose a blog on the company Grics society, a specialist in educational technology in primary and secondary (K-12) in Quebec province, Canada). It is in French, but with the translation tools (like Google), it will be easy for you to read it.

Hello,
I noticed that only few blogs are talking about Moodle. I present to you Apprendre à distance (http://www.apprendre.grics.qc.ca). It is in French but with the online translation tools, you should be able to read it.
